Manufacturer Description

The 25mm, 20mm, 15mm, 11mm, and 8mm Plossls round out the focal lengths for various observing from deep sky to planetary. They work best with Tele Vue Powermates to effectively double the number of focal lengths in your collection. Far superior to eyepieces usually provided as standard with most instruments.

Since TeleVue introduced their Plossls in 1980, they have won praise and patents, including a patent in Japan. Tele Vue Plossls, designed by Al Nagler, have been a recognized benchmark of performance and value in the class of 50° apparent field of view eyepieces. While the Plossls may be Tele Vue's least expensive eyepiece line, they still enjoy the same care and attention to detail as their most expensive. While it's easy for other manufacturers to vie for the lowest price, Tele Vue continues to believe that quality, performance and consistency will ultimately reward you with the most value for your dollar.

Diffraction limited "on-axis" performance is a given. Using more expensive high-index glasses to reduce astigmatism and lateral color at the field's edge, Tele Vue Plossls deliver sharper images than any other brand of 4 or 5 element Plossls or Orthoscopic designs. The faster the focal ratio of your telescope, the greater your visual reward for using Tele Vue eyepieces. Tele Vue Plossls feature full multicoatings for greatest light transmission and contrast. Blackened lens edges and internal anti-reflection threads tweak the last bit of contrast for maximum image detail. The sharper field focuses faint star light into perceptible points and allows those with undriven mounts to gaze longer before repositioning the image.

For a bit more than generic brands, you can own genuine Tele Vue Plossls

      5.0 TV 11mm Plossl

      Pros:

Great inexpensive higher power views of Jupiter, Saturn, and Mars. Really nice view of M7 in a shorter focal length scope. Very satisfied.

      5.0 Simply the best

      Pros:

      Strong Construction,Easy to Use,Compact

      Cons:

      Comments:

This eyepiece provides very near the maximum resolution in my telescope which is f/13. The views are crisp with a nice dark background and excellent contrast. I love the views of Saturn and I also enjoy splitting binaries with this eyepiece. I haven't seen a competing plossl with similar focal length perform as well as this eyepiece. I highly recommend it.

      4.0 Great eyepiece

      Pros:

      Easy to Use,Quality Lenses,Compact,Sharp Focus,Lightweight,Strong Construction,Accurate

      Cons:

      Only 50 Degree Afov,Expensive

      Comments:

Good eyepiece with edge to edge sharpness. Fully Multi-Coated. Better eye relief than the 8mm version. I don't think you'll find a better quality Plossl than this. There are only 2 'cons'. First, is the price. It's a premium eyepiece but it has a premium price too. Second, the Apparent Field of View is only 50 degrees, compared to 52 or more in other Plossls. I'm willing to trade a few degrees of AFOV for a better quality image.

      5.0 Just right

      Pros:

Construction, quality, great views of any object.

      Cons:

Those of a standard plossl concerning FOV and eye relief; Price

      Comments:

I purchased this EP in my last upgrade as I wanted to improve on some of my standard plossl including a 10mm EP that I had. I sought some input from others and read quite a few reviews. Having never received an unfavorable opinion I ordered the EP.

Upon arrival, the first thing I noticed was the nice construction. The EP has a look and feel of a quality ocular. The eye lens is a nice size for the FL. Holding it on edge below a strong light reveals a soft green-like glow from the coatings. It is listed as multi-coated and comes with 2 end caps and a soft rubber eye cup.

As nice as the EP looks, its performance is better. When used on bright planetary objects it reveals much detail. The views are very crisp, clear, and without ghosting. When used on globular clusters the views were excellent. Many stars are resolved without a problem as is the splitting of close doubles. When using this EP one gets the feeling that the only limiting issues are the sky, the scope, or a barlow.

Image quality does not suffer when used with a good barlow, even with a fast scope such as my F6 Dob. Views of Saturn, Jupiter, and the Moon are always as good as possible. I have used this EP with various filters without a complaint.

On the negative side, it has the normal limitations of a standard Plossl when considering FOV and eye relief. This is not a bad thing, just the nature of the design. Also note, the price is a bit stiff. I believe it is about the highest of any plossl on the market.

This is just one high quality EP - the plossl produced at its highest form. If you want a good high power ocular, this is the one for you.

      5.0 Televue 11mm Plossl

      Pros:

Top quality in all areas of manufacturing; Cost not much; Holds value well

      Cons:

      Can't think of any

      Comments:

This is about the very best in maximum power that I can go to as an eye glass user. Televue does make an 8mm eyepiece, but the 11mm is the maximum I can use. Typical quality that Televue is known for. Great multi-coated green tint on all glass.

The stats are: eye relief 6mm, 4 elements, and weight 0.1 lb. Comes boxed with end caps unless you buy from the used market and then it will come in a mixed bag. Plastic screw cap etc., but new this goes for $82.00. Some used markets offer this, from time to time for around $50.00, if you are lucky.
