      5.0 Great Lumicon filter.

      Pros:

      Cons:

      Comments:

Typical good quality as you expect from Lumicon. So far I have only used it for near full moons. It dials down the brightness and increases contrast without an obtrusive yellow tint like more aggressive yellow filters. Good for scopes with CA I hear.

      5.0 Reduces CA in achromats

      Pros:

      Strong Construction,Quality Lenses

      Cons:

      Comments:

After reading that a #8 light yellow filter can be used for reducing CA in achromats I bought this one to test against several other CA reducing filters. In practice it performs essentially identical to the Baader Fringe Killer. It reduces CA about 50-60%. This allows not only sharper views for the moon and planets, but also improves sharpness of star images for deep sky. Above 100x with my Vixen 140NA I see significant improvement and can actually get sharp star images in globular clusters at least up to 160x when using the filter. There is less scattered light with the filter. Even at lower magnifications the view seems cleaned up with this filter. Some people worry about color shift. You won't notice it for deep sky observations. The moon looks lavender without a filter in my scope. With the #8 filter the purple wash is removed so it appears white. That color shift is good! I definitely recommend this filter for use with achromats to reduce CA. It does not completely remove CA like the Baader 495 Longpass, but it provides significant improvement.
