Barska 15X70 X-Trail
Pros:Light weight, well built, good optics, price
Cons:Thin strap, lousy case
Comments:This Barska binocular is quite well built. It has a reasonably solid rubbery feel to it and good ergonomics. The two halves pivot slowly and stiffly to change the inter-pupilary distance, and stay in place when moved. The ribbed rubbery focuser too moves slowly and with some effort, and the focus stays even when pressing the eyes against the eyepieces. The focus will shift, however, if some considerable pressure is deliberately put on the eyepieces, such as with the thumbs. The supplied tripod adapter is made of hard plastic. It appears adequate, but isn't. With the binoculars mounted with it, a good thump takes about 9-10 seconds to dampen.
Bottom Line: Would you recommend this item? Yes
The optical quality is pretty good and they give a razor sharp image with nice star images about 90% out. They are wonderful to view the Milky Way, M42 Orion Nebula, Lagoon Nebula, and the Andromeda Galaxy. They perform better than expected. As for the Barska 15x70 itself, there is much to commend it, but ensure that the unit you receive has no quality control problems. It is good value for the money, a good performer, quite light-weight, well built, and will give you pleasing large scale panoramic views of the night sky.Sort by
