Astro Hutech has resurrected the famed orthoscopic eyepiece series that was sold under the label of Kasai Trading Company of Japan for many years. These eyepieces are based on the classic Abbe Orthoscopic (3 + 1 element) design. The true Abbe Orthoscopic has long been recognized for its ability to deliver the highest resolution, contrast and light throughput of any modern eyepiece design.
The three cemented elements are hand-aligned by Japanese craftsmen. All components of this eyepiece, including all glass and other materials, are manufactured and assembled fully in Japan.
Fully multicoated lenses provide clean, high-contrast images suitable for optimum planetary and lunar viewing. On-axis images are essentially perfect and the orthoscopic design ensures freedom from distortion. Contrast and throughput are maximized by its minimum of lens elements, coatings, and only 4 air-to-glass surfaces.
Features:
- Fully multi-coated optics
- 42 degree apparent field of view.
- Eye relief: ~80% of focal length
- Smooth-sided 1.25" eyepiece barrels

Worth it for the Views of Jupiter Alone
Pros: Cons: Comments:This eyepiece delivered highly detailed views of Jupiter in my 4" f/5.4 refractor. It was not my experience that the on center views were surpassed by higher-end, wide-field eyepieces of similar focal length, and it is possible that the views through this eyepiece were showing, if not greater detail, then more clarity of any given detail. Furthermore, the eye relief, field of view, and magnification were not nearly as challenging to use as expected with this telescope on an alt-az mount with manual slow motion controls and on a manually pushed and pulled 10" dobsonian.
Bottom Line: Would you recommend this item? Yes
The only problem with the example that I received are patches of roughness around the field stop that appear to be related to the black paint used to darken the internals. This became a bit distracting while viewing the moon, so this does not replace my wide-fields in this regard. However, the level of detail accessible through this eyepiece makes up for this flaw to my eye. I really look forward to using this 4mm ortho when Saturn rolls around. This review was provided courtesy of AgenaAstro.com
Jan 8, 2017A good eyepiece if you can use it
Pros: Cons: Comments:I got this for Christmas from my parents. I use it with my Edmund 6" f/8 scope. This eyepiece is great if you have an instrument with a short enough focal length or large enough aperture to use it, and if you have tracking. Very sharp views.

Oct 27, 2016Great views
Pros:Accurate,Quality Lenses
Cons:Difficult to grasp
Comments:Sharpest views of anything close to this price range. Sure the eye relief is a bit tight but the smaller field of view means you actually don't have to jam your eye in to see everything. The one negative is the upper housing is so short it's a little difficult to grasp out of your eyepiece case. Still I highly recommend.

Sep 30, 2016A very good planetary eyepiece
Pros:high quality
Cons: Comments:A high quality, short focal length, short eye relief eyepiece with a small field suitable for planetary, double star, or lunar viewing. Not a drop-dead eyepiece like a Zeiss orthoscopic in my opinion, but incredibly less expensive, and available, and as far as I can tell, Zeiss doesnt sell an orthoscopic with a focal length this short anyway. Don't get one if you expect a wide field, but do get one if you are after a high contrast view in a small field at a reasonable price. I personally like orthoscopics for this kind of viewing much more than plossls.

Feb 9, 2014Tiny
Pros:Quality Lenses,Strong Construction,Accurate,Lightweight,Compact
Cons:Difficult to Use
Comments:This is a good quality eyepiece, but the 3.9mm eye lens is tiny. Combine that with only 3.9mm of eye relief and this eyepiece is difficult to use.
