Oldie goodie!
Pros:Near perfect eyepiece!
Cons:No eyeguard
Comments:Great little eyepiece! If you don't want to dish out the big $$$ then pick up some of these super televue plossls. These are discontinued.
Bottom Line: Would you recommend this item? Yes
I love the sharpness of these. Easy to use, you can't go wrong with one of these. Sharp to the edge in a f5.9. If you're looking for this focal length pick it up. I like it better than the 15mm TV. Love this series!Sep 7, 2007Televue 17mm Plossl
Pros:Excellent views, no false color, barlows well.
Cons:Discontinued, but can be found from time to time.
Comments:This eyepiece belongs to the older set of smooth-sided, now discontinued TeleVue plossl eyepieces that I tested and reviewed in my LX-90 f/10 SCT. I liked them all.
Bottom Line: Would you recommend this item? Yes
First let me say that you should use Orion's winged eye cup on all of these. They don't have the attached rubber folding eye cup and it helps with the viewing.
In viewing Jupiter there is no false color at all and it barlows very well. It has the smooth sides and needs to be held in the diagonal well. The view are superb. Multi-coated glass, manufactured in Japan and although discontinued, it can be found on the used market often. Buy it! If you don't have the 15mm or 20mm of the newer ones, grab this eyepiece. Eye relief is 10mm, 4 glass elements typical of a plossl and the FOV is also typical 50 degrees. Star views are pinpoint and the clusters are very well formed and almost always complete in the view.Sort by
