      5.0 Tele Vue Nagler type 1 9mm

Excellent planetary & lunar viewing; Typical Nagler quality.

Discontinued; hard to find; short on eye relief.

I borrowed this eyepiece the other night and used it my 8" f/10 SCT. I liked it! The eye relief is short as with most of the early Naglers at 12mm max. but it is worth the view. In viewing the moon, there was some very slight kidney beaning, but just a bit and you had to look for it. But for planet viewing this eyepiece comes into its own. The view of Mars was just grand. Just a hint of the polar cap and some color on the planet itself made my night. This eyepiece can be a real workhorse for you if planetary viewing is what you do mostly. With the large 82 degree FOV you can look around, but this EP is for planet and lunar viewing at its best. Excellent contrast and a very flat background showed in my telescope. I was impressed with this early Nagler.

This 9mm has the 2" skirt so you can use it in a 2" diagonal or keep it in the 1.25" diagonal. If you can find one on the used market, expect to pay at a minimum $200 to $250 for it. I liked this eyepiece. I own the 7mm Nagler Type 1 and am considering purchacing this one in the future.
