Manufacturer Description

The 25mm, 20mm, 15mm, 11mm, and 8mm Plossls round out the focal lengths for various observing from deep sky to planetary. They work best with Tele Vue Powermates to effectively double the number of focal lengths in your collection. Far superior to eyepieces usually provided as standard with most instruments.

Since TeleVue introduced their Plossls in 1980, they have won praise and patents, including a patent in Japan. Tele Vue Plossls, designed by Al Nagler, have been a recognized benchmark of performance and value in the class of 50° apparent field of view eyepieces. While the Plossls may be Tele Vue's least expensive eyepiece line, they still enjoy the same care and attention to detail as their most expensive. While it's easy for other manufacturers to vie for the lowest price, Tele Vue continues to believe that quality, performance and consistency will ultimately reward you with the most value for your dollar.

Diffraction limited "on-axis" performance is a given. Using more expensive high-index glasses to reduce astigmatism and lateral color at the field's edge, Tele Vue Plossls deliver sharper images than any other brand of 4 or 5 element Plossls or Orthoscopic designs. The faster the focal ratio of your telescope, the greater your visual reward for using Tele Vue eyepieces. Tele Vue Plossls feature full multicoatings for greatest light transmission and contrast. Blackened lens edges and internal anti-reflection threads tweak the last bit of contrast for maximum image detail. The sharper field focuses faint star light into perceptible points and allows those with undriven mounts to gaze longer before repositioning the image.

For a bit more than generic brands, you can own genuine Tele Vue Plossls

      5.0 Great Plossl

      Pros:

      Cons:

      Comments:

Viewed the total solar eclipse in Casper, Wy with this eyepiece. Thanks to Agena for getting it to me on time.
Excellent contrast, and viewing the solar prominences through this eyepiece during totality was jaw dropping. I'll never forget it. Not quite sharp to the edge in my Tele Vue Ranger (the outer 10% is not sharp), but the Ranger is only F/6.8. Eye relief is a bit tight for eyeglass wearers, but fine w/o glasses. A solid eyepiece. Giving it 5 stars for the splendid contrast.

P.S. - Still made in Japan!

      5.0 Great views

      Pros:

      Strong Construction,Compact,Lightweight,Accurate,Quality Lenses,Easy to Use

      Cons:

      Narrow View

      Comments:

This is a great eyepiece. It's a plossl so it only has 4 lenses which makes the light transmission really high. This means it gives bright views. Also it's Televue so the optical quality is high. This means it gives clear views. It is also comfortable to look through. The eyecup is well designed to keep your lashes from smudging the eyepiece lense and to keep your face positioned right to see through the eyepiece straight. The eye relief is not extremely long, but it's still good. Also the magnification level is in the sweet spot for my c9.25. This is one of my favorite eyepieces.

      5.0 Best 20mm Plossl!

      Pros:

      Crisp, lighweight, contrast

      Cons:

AFOV 50 but it is a plossl

      Comments:

This is simply the best 20mm plossl. There is nothing wrong with this one. Views are very crisp, eye relief is good and it is an excellent choice of plossl to choose.

      5.0 Televue 20mm Plossl

      Pros:

Excellent optics, reasonable cost, great customer service.

      Cons:

      Can't think of any, sorry.

      Comments:

When I don't use my Denkmeier Binoviewer and want single views I use this Televue 20mm plossl. I only own one of these and am looking for another, but for my purpose this eyepiece works just fine. The stats are: focal length 20mm, apparent field of view (FOV) 50 degrees, barrel size 1.25", eye relief 11mm, field stop diameter 17.1mm, 4 elements and the weight 0.3 pounds. Fully multi-coated with a very nice light green tint. Comes boxed with both end caps. The plossl's are the Televue low cost line, but their quality is first class in all that they make.

Cost new is $95.00 and worth every penny. For a beginner in this hobby the Televue line of plossls are the way to go. They hold their resale value when you want to upgrade.
