Great little 60mm scope.
Pros:Excellent performance for a 60mm F5 achromat.
Cons:No longer available new, complete used ones can be hard to find.
Comments:The 9VR is a well made little 60mm F5 achromatic refractor made for Tasco by Vixen in the 1980’s. Construction is very robust with a smooth R&P focuser; parts are all metal except for the focus knobs. It weighs in at about 2.75 lbs without the included 6x30 finder. A finder on a 60mm F5 is redundant anyway. Even though it comes with a .965” visual back it accepts 36.4mm threaded Vixen accessories so a Vixen 1.25” visual back fits it fine. I bought mine just to play around with and use as a finder on a larger scope. The optics in the one I have are excellent considering the scope’s size and f ratio. I’ve seen the South polar cap and Syrtis Major on Mars at 100x when Mars was at a favorable opposition. I’ve used it for solar observing with a Baader filter with decent results. The chromatic aberration does become a problem when viewing terrestrial objects at higher magnification or bright stars like Vega. If you want a high quality mini scope/ finder for less than the cost of many 60mm finders then this a great buy.
