Pros:Well written, great pictorials, perfect starting point and reference
Cons:none
Comments:This is another great book for getting started with astronomy. Well written with interesting and useful information. Not only does it show you where to find the constellations but also gives you some history as to why they were named this or that.
Bottom Line: Would you recommend this item? Yes
Categorized down to each day of the month you'll find everything you need to get started finding your way around the heavens. The artwork is very well done too, with easy to find "landmarks" that will most certainly help you find what you're looking for in the night sky. I used this to get started and it worked very well. Smoothly gets you going. And the more you read the more you want to learn which makes astronomy a never ending hobby, filled with fun and wonder. You can take it as far as you like.
The book itself is well made with tight binding and strong paper stock. We've owned it for years and held up well.
I highly recommend this book along with The Stars: A New Way to See Them by Rey. These two books belong together imo.

Pros:Great book for beginners; Essays for each day of the year; Good basic information; Drawings, charts and mythology.
Cons:First editions may be difficult to find.
Comments:This is a delightful book about the stars and other celestial bodies that make up the night sky. There are 365 well written essays, including plenty of mythology behind the names of many of the constellations, along with charts, drawings, and explanations on how the earth moves around the sun to create the nightly parade of heavenly wonders. The information within this book is very basic and is geared toward the beginner, but is an enjoyable read nonetheless. This would be a great book for someone who is just starting their journey of discovery, and who maybe turned off by more technically oriented books.
