A nice webcam
Pros:Inexpensive; light weight; easy to use
Cons:None that I've found
Comments:I purchased a Toucam 840k even though I already owned the SPC900NC. This cam turned out to be a very good imager for bright objects. I've used this camera for taking images of the Sun, the Moon, and several orbiting planets. It also works great on bright stars and global clusters. I would highly recommend this camera to anyone interested in astro imaging.
Bottom Line: Would you recommend this item? YesJun 30, 2007Great little webcam
Pros:Great quality, great software
Cons:A bit pricey
Comments:I have used this mainly for planetary imaging and it has performed very well. I also used it briefly with its normal lens attached just to see how it worked, and that provided a pretty good and clear picture. The software that comes with the webcam is pretty versatile, and can allow you to not only capture videos but change the brightness, saturation, gain, shutter speed, and frames per second among other things. The overall quality is also good, and it has worked just fine outside in near freezing weather and with lots of dew on everything.
Bottom Line: Would you recommend this item? Yes
Great little webcam with great software that can be used for webcam astrophotography right out of the box. I did add a UV/IR cutoff filter to keep the infrared light from messing up the focus on my images. There are cheaper webcams available, but many of these don't have the clarity or sensitivity of the Philips webcams. If you are thinking about webcam astrophotography, check the internet for the latest info.Sort by
