Pentax 20x60 PCF WP
Pros:Great resolution and clarity. Sharp images, no distortion clear to edge.
Cons:Get a tripod adapter..you will need it to get the best from these!
Comments:I bought these used off EBAY for $110. They provide excellent sharp images all the way to edge of the field of view...very impressive! I understand this is because of a built-in field flattener lens. Excellent resolution....I could see rings on Saturn!
Bottom Line: Would you recommend this item? Yes
These can be hand-held for terrestrial viewing and some astronomical viewing. Because of 20x magnification, a tripod is definitely recommended for astronomical viewing, but I was able to use for some limited star and nebula viewing. The Orion nebula was outstanding and the Trapezium could be resolved.
The narrow FOV (2.2 degrees) can make it a bit difficult to locate objects but this is to be expected due to magnification. I like that they are nitrogen-filled, waterproof to 1 meter (not that I expect to use them underwater ;) ).
Eye relief (20 mm) is EXCELLENT for someone like myself who wears glasses! Eyecups can be collapsed or extended easily. Focusing had good action and focus lock is nice feature. Diopter adjustment also good with detents.Jul 28, 2007Pentax PCF 20X60 Binoculars
Pros:Excellent views, Pentax is a quality name, Nice customer support
Cons:Heavy, must be tripod held, a touch expensive, narrow FOV
Comments:I've borrowed these binos for the past month or so and have had great nights and poor nights. When buying these great binos, one must buy the tripod adapter as these can't be hand held. The stats are: FOV 2.2 degrees, weight 43.4 oz. (heavy). Comes with a center-focus porro prism, with a right eye adjustment, focus lock (nice) and a tripod socket. Price new is $259.95; used from $175 and up.
Bottom Line: Would you recommend this item? Yes
On a very good night, tripod mounted, these give excellent views. I can't give it 5 stars because you have to buy some extras to use this (tripod adapter, tripod, etc.) and the field of view is very small. With that in mind, it's an excellent binocular with some very good views. As an example, Jupiter and its 4 visible moons were seen.
There are also eye cups that extend for eye glass users. All things considered, I'd rather use my old 15 x 70s as they are much lighter and can be hand held for some time before you need to put them on a tripod.Sort by
