Paul Rini 0.5x 1.25" Focal Reducer
Pros:Works well and has a solid design and coated optics; priced well
Cons:None
Comments:This was my second Paul Rini 0.5x focal reducer. I had two and each one had very good quality design and optics. Its coated lens doesn't show any more or any less light scattering affect than the other bottom-type screw-on 0.5x focal reducers that I have owned. This model just drops in the focuser like any other eyepiece/barlow, but this reduces the power using either a CCD camera or an eyepiece. Each one came with a nylon thumb screw so you don't scratch your accessory being used. It did a perfect job when I was using a webcam and a Meade DSI color imager and for eyepieces it worked wonderfully. It's an all round, well priced 0.5x reducer which cost $25 or less. Comparing both types of 1.25" 0.5x focal reducers like this drop-in kind and the screw-on kind, I haven't seen much, if any, difference with the objects I was viewing - totally different designs but the same function. I only know of one place to buy this and thats on the big auction site. I'm sure it has some focus travel difference because of its design, but from what I can tell with it in either a reflector or refractor, I did not notice any differences.
