Orion 1/4"-20 Adapter
Pros:Small size; Great flexibility; Low price
Cons:Need to keep a hex wrench nearby.
Comments:Sometimes the smallest piece of equipment can make a big impact on your viewing sessions. Case in point is the Orion 1/4"-20 Adapter. This little dovetail wedge is all aluminum and about 4" long, with a captive post that will screw into any standard 1/4"-20 opening. The plate will fit any Vixen/Celestron type dovetail clamp.
Bottom Line: Would you recommend this item? Yes
I originally bought this adapter to be able to mount my Orion ST80 scope to a Celestron CG5 mount without having to use tube rings or remove the plate on the scope. This little adapter worked perfectly! In addition to the CG5, I'm able to quickly remove the scope and transfer it to my Desert Sky mount in less than a minute. I probably would not try this with a scope much larger than the ST80, but it should be perfect for one of the newer 66ED scopes.
This little adapter should give you some more mounting options for your small "grab and go" scopes or other equipment that is tethered with a 1/4"-20 mounting block. Price is around $15 from Orion. A small price to pay for the added flexibility.Sort by
