Nikon Action Lookout IV 10X50
Pros:Daylight targets are sharp near center; Smooth mechanicals; Solid construction.
Cons:Limited night use; Star images were soft; Field curvature.
Comments:Just before I settled on the Orion Scenix binos for my night observations, I had the opportunity to use the Nikon Action Lookout for about a week. I was somewhat disappointed by their performance when used for astronomy. I could never really get good tight pinpoints on any stars, and much of the outer 30% of the field of view was very soft and mushy. The mechanicals and body construction were very good, but there was very bad field curvature near the edge of the field of view. The lenses are multi-coated and has a wide 6.5 degree field of view. Daytime views were nice, but I've seen better in lesser priced binoculars.
Bottom Line: Would you recommend this item? Yes
In summation, these are ok binoculars for daylight terrestial targets, but I would bypass these in favor of a better suited and less expensive alternative for astronomy use.Sort by
