Minolta Classic 10X50 Binoculars
Pros:Sharp views; Wide field of view; Good price.
Cons:Very soft near edge of view; Stars somewhat soft.
Comments:I've owned a pair of these binoculars in the past, and was quite satisfied with their performance. Views were quite sharp, and distortion was confined to the last 10% of the FOV. Mechanics were smooth with no binding of the focuser or diopter settings. However, eye relief was on the short side, and could be a problem for eyeglass wearers.
Bottom Line: Would you recommend this item? Yes
The Minoltas performed adequately as Astronomy binos. They presented a nice 7 degree field of view with little distortion, but stars were never really tight pinpoints. I detected no color aberrations or flaring......just a nice presentation of the sky being studied. Daytime views were very sharp, with little distortion.
Even though I was fond of these binos, I eventually sold them and bought a pair of Orion Scenix, and I've never looked back. These aren't bad binoculars to have until you can move up to something better.Sort by
