Minolta Activa 10x50W
Pros:Nice 10 power, armored, 6.5 degree FOV, BAK4 prisms, feels good hand-holding it
Cons:Borders on being pricey, small eye relief.
Comments:Another fine pair of binoculars I've just had an opportunity to use for a night was this excellent Minolta Activa binocular. I sells for $150 new plus shipping and it is a fine pair of not too expensive binoculars.
Bottom Line: Would you recommend this item? Yes
These are armored, with a tripod adapter socket. They are fully multi-coated on all glass surfaces, have BAK4 porro prisms, a FOV of 6.5 degrees and have eye relief of 12mm, which is just about the minimum for eye glass wearers. The weight is a hefty 31 oz.
There is some ghosting during the day, say for birding, but it's tolerable. Nighttime views are excellent, but there is some softness if the image towards the edge. Color was not a problem. I saw no obvious chromatic aberration, with good contrast and clarity. Stars are pinpoint out to about 70% with some seagull effect beyond that, and this becomes a bit too much in the last 10%. All in all, a decent pair of binoculars that won't break the bank.Sort by
