Manufacturer Description
Using advanced computer design, combinations of low dispersion and high refractive index optical glasses, and durable multilayer deposition coatings, Explore Scientific 82° Series extreme wide field eyepieces are optimized to produce high contrast, high resolution, and superior flat field characteristics. The visual effect of these eyepieces with their long eye-relief and their 82° apparent field is truly a full-immersion experience. Your eye is relaxed, allowing you to easily use the "averted vision" technique to study faint details across a huge field-of-view.
Each eyepiece is meticulously assembled into precision machined metal lens barrels that maintain the perfect alignment of the optical train for years of rugged use in the field. The 82° Series eyepieces come with a twist-up rubber eye-guard that raise to the desired height for the comfort of the observer, and as experienced astronomers know, eye comfort is critical when trying to observe at the visual limits of the telescope.
To keep internal reflections to a minimum, all internal surfaces of the eyepiece barrel are flat black, as well as the edges of the lenses themselves to minimize the scattering of light within the lenses themselves.
Explore Scientific's eyepieces are backed with their exclusive Explore STAR Transferrable Extended Life of the Product Warranty. Limited Warranty is one year, which converts to the Explore STAR Transferrable Extended Life of the Product Warranty when product is registered within 60 days of purchase. We think that you will find Explore Scientific eyepieces rank among the finest obtainable and represent an outstanding value.

Excellent value
Pros: Cons: Comments:I use this with two telescopes, one of them down to f/5. The level of optical correction and its build quality is very good for its price.

Nov 7, 2017Excellent planetary eyepiece
Pros: Cons: Comments:This is a very solid eyepiece. The eye relief is pleasant and the field of view very wide indeed. It's definitely a big step up from a gold line, and the main disadvantage is the weight. But this is manageable, even with my small telescope.

Sep 8, 2017ES 8.8mm Eyepiece
Pros: Cons: Comments:I used this eyepiece with the AR150 and found it to be crisp, clear and clean when viewing the moon, Venus, Orion Nebula and Sirius.Great contrast and detail along with a high quality construction. Money well spent. Agena also offered a free bolt case and as always superior service.

May 30, 2014Excellent Eyepiece From An A++++ Vendor
Pros:Strong Construction,Compact,Lightweight,Quality Lenses
Cons: Comments:Explore Scientific eyepieces are the best kept secret in the industry. They are well built, sharp, offer great eye relief and don't fog up like Brand X with the green lettering. Plus they cost about a third of what the high end eyepieces cost and deliver nearly the same image.
Bottom Line: Would you recommend this item? Yes
Agena Astro is a top notch vendor offering the best prices and free shipping. I had the eyepiece within three days of placing my order. And they included a free carrying case, which was totally unexpected. This review was provided courtesy of AgenaAstro.com

Mar 16, 2014ES eyepieces are excellent
Pros:Compact,Quality Lenses,Strong Construction,Accurate,Easy to Use
Cons: Comments:ES eyepieces are great. If you have ever done any research on ES they consistently get good reports. I bought the 8.8mm for planetary viewing. Jupiter looks awesome and the wide field also includes its moons. Close up study of the moons surface is crystal clear. I also turned it to the Orion Nebula just out of curiosity and was able to see the 5th star of the trapezium. It gives me 230 power on my 8" SCT and the eye relief is great. You will never be disappointed in one of these over a more high priced eyepiece, and you can wash it under the faucet to boot. I am happy

Oct 11, 2013Best eyepiece
Pros:Strong Construction,Compact,Quality Lenses,Accurate,Lightweight,Easy to Use
Cons: Comments:They say there's ten ways to improve a telescope's performance. At the top of the list is replace the eyepieces.
Bottom Line: Would you recommend this item? Yes
This eyepiece has allowed me to see the heavens in a whole new way- more detailed and span of view I have to 'look' around to see all the view.
The only 'con' is the very edge and this is only whisper thin is some stars have very small tails- but that because of the F4.5 telescope not the eyepiece. I tried it in my longer focal telescopes perfect seeing right to the edge.
If you want to upgrade from your cheaper eyepieces buy this one. The planet Saturn never looked so good and it took a full minute and a half instead of 30 seconds to travel across the view of field. The gap in the rings look so sharp I had the impression I was looking at a photo.
Unless you have already spend $500 dollars on a single eyepiece then buy this one. It will blow your mind- I am going to buy the larger mm one real soon. This review was provided courtesy of AgenaAstro.com
Sep 27, 2013Best eyepiece in a series of 82 deg
Pros:Compact,Easy to Use,Quality Lenses,Strong Construction,Lightweight,Accurate
Cons:Do Not Have
Comments:Residual aberrations eyepiece
Bottom Line: Would you recommend this item? Yes
When the lens 1:4. Very nice image of a luminous point on the axis of less than 5 arc. minutes. In the zone (70% of the center to the edge) image of the star increases to 8-9 arc. minutes for the most part because of astigmatism and curvature. At the edge of the field of view (one and a half degrees from the edge of the diaphragm) is an aberration spot size 11-12 arc. minutes. Home aberration - astigmatism and chromatic aberration increase (blue tail to the center). Minor positive distortion 5-8%.
When the lens of 1:10. Aberrations almost the entire field of view is hardly noticeable, just on the edge of the field of view is noticeable blue tail chromaticity increasing width 6-7 arc. minutes.
Eye relief is moderately comfortable for observation without glasses. "Bean vignetting" not too much, but his presence and significantly (the size of the aberration spot in O. Pupil of 2.8 mm).
Assessment and Recommendations
Great for a telescope eyepiece of any focal length and relative aperture! Of course, it is ideal to use in high-aperture instruments such as 1:5, 1:4 .. Newtons as a DSO (in spherical clusters and other compact, small galaxies) and for observing faint satellites of Saturn / Uranus.
I highly recommend. This review was provided courtesy of AgenaAstro.com
Aug 4, 2013Planetary performer
Pros:Easy to Use,Compact,Lightweight,Strong Construction,Quality Lenses,Accurate
Cons: Comments:I bought the ES82 8.8mm for use with planets in my Dob and Refractor. Stars look great, even at f/5 in the reflector, crisp all the way to the edge. This eyepiece delivers around 150x through both of my scopes, which seems to be the seeing limit for Saturn most nights. I have no complaints about this fantastic eyepiece.
