Barska BlackHawk 15x70 Binoculars
Pros:Inexpensive, decent optics, tripod adapter included.
Cons:Middle 50% is its best. There are better 15x70s on the market today.
Comments:This is the third and last pair of 15x70 binoculars that I used for a number of hours a few nights ago. However it was not the best. It's price new is $120 and around $80 on the used market. It comes with a three year limited warranty. It features BAK4 porro prisms, weighs in at 2-1/2 pounds, and is armored and multi-coated. The FOV is 4.4 degrees.
Bottom Line: Would you recommend this item? Yes
There were some internal reflections and any bright objects will show some ghosting, for example, during lunar viewing. It is not a great deal but enough to be noticed. You can easily see all of the Pleiades and Orion's Belt with no trouble. Stars are at their best in the middle 50% of the field of view. Sharpness falls off very quickly from 50% out to the edge.
Collimation is spot on from the factory and I had no trouble with focusing. Barska includes a tripod adapter, which is a very nice feature. A tripod is the way to go should you want to see the heavens at their best with this binocular.Sort by
