Manufacturer Description
Baader Planetarium has evolved the wide-field astronomical eyepiece to a new level. Introducing the worlds first production Astronomical Eyepieces to use aspheric surfaces, the 31mm and 36mm Baader Hyperion-Aspheric 72-deg Modular Eyepieces. This new technology has allowed Baader to eliminate eyepiece aberrations without the usual penalty of extra lens elements, excessive size and weight, or high cost.
• The Hyperion-Aspherics freedom from blackouts, kidney beaning, and lack of distortion combines with their long eye relief to produce a view that is uncommonly comfortable and natural for all users (including eye-glass wearers and users of popular astigmatism correcting lenses).
• The ultra-wide 72° field is extremely flat and distortionless (virtually free of angular magnification distortion).
• Baaders renowned Phantom Group Multi-Coatings and thorough internal baffling produce an extremely bright and high contrast view that is free of scatter.
• Hyperion Modularity Superb for projection imaging. The Hyperion-Aspherics are threaded to accept the full line of Hyperion Digital T-Rings, for a robust direct attachment of almost any camera. The clever use of 2"x24 TPI SCT threads for attaching the 2" barrel permits the Hyperion-Aspherics to directly thread onto the rear cell of popular SCTs. This results in the highest rigidity possible for imaging.
• Dual Barrel Configuration two barrel sizes are provided with each Hyperion Aspheric. The standard 2" barrel provides the full 72-deg field size, and a special wide-field 1.25" barrel provides the maximum true field ever in a 1.25" format, with a field stop size of 1.265 (32mm)! - perfect for extracting every bit of field possible in 1.25" telescopes or binoviewers.
• Accepts popular astigmatism correcting lenses.
• Weight: 390 g (13.8 oz)

Sep 7, 2017Fantastic quality so clear and sharp
Pros: Cons: Comments:Highly recommended quality eyepiece without breaking the bank. So clear and sharp, and space view-port like view. Smaller than i expected but still a chunk of glass. You'll love it.

Jan 16, 2017Aspheric does not make for even focus edge to edge
Pros: Cons: Comments:Aspheric evidently does not make for even focus edge to edge on my C8 SCT, F10. Very disturbing. The 2" gives the wide field of view, whereas the 1.25" adapter cuts it down, so I avoid the adapter.

Mar 22, 2015Baader hyperion 31mm
Pros:Strong Construction,Quality Lenses,Easy to Use
Cons: Comments:Very nice eyepiece, it's not a panoptic but 90% of performance for half the money, hence the 5 stars. Used in f-10 cat sct and mct. Only a few percent at the edge not perfect. Better than a swan 33mm a lot better. Nice throughput also very nice eyepiece for the money. Very nice build quality, etc.

Jul 12, 2014Not for a fast reflector!
Pros:Lightweight,Compact
Cons:Poor Lens Quality
Comments:Ordered this one and tried it out the same night in my 10" F/4.7 reflector. Only the inner 50% was sharp, but even then, I still had a hard time getting a good "focus snap" to happen. The outer 50% was astigmatic. Not recommended for a fast reflector.

Mar 1, 2012Has to be the best widefield eyepiece
Pros:Strong Construction,Compact,Lightweight,Easy to Use,Quality Lenses,Accurate
Cons: Comments:I use this eyepiece with my SkyWatcher 120mm f5 refractor (my only scope) for wide-field viewing, Andromeda, Orion nebular, star clusters, that sort of thing. The 31mm Baader Hyperion eyepiece with my scope gives a field of view of 3.72

May 31, 2009Awesome Dob Finder Eyepiece
Pros:Comfortable,Affordable,Well corrected,Lightweight,Quality Construction,Wide Field of View
Cons:None
Comments:I purchased the 31mm Baader Hyperion Aspheric as a low power finder eyepiece for a 10" f/4.7 Dobsonian. The eyepiece performs admirably in the fast scope, providing a wide, well-corrected field of view in an affordable, lightweight, easy-to-balance package. The long eye relief makes long stints at the eyepiece very comfortable.
