Antares 127mm f6.5 @7 months
Pros:Build quality, value for dollar spent, optical quality ( well corrected)
Cons:No manual provided with OTA, mounting rings do not have ability for mounting other equipment.
Comments:In may 2006 I purchased an Antares 127mm f/6.5 scope from Agena Astro. Within a week the scope arrived at my front door. This was an OTA only. I quickly set up the OTA on an LXD75 mount, and went through the requisite training for the new scope. Build quality was excellent, now it was time to check out the optics and see how this beast performed.
Bottom Line: Would you recommend this item? Yes
Star test was great both sides of focus. Now the real test was to begin being an achromat what would color rendition be like. In the 7 months I've owned the scope I've found minimal CA on bright objects. My particular scope does not exhibit huge amounts of haloing on the full moon or planets. For those who have less tolerance for CA , an MV1 filter is a must. Images are clear with great contrast. The only change I would have made to my purchase would have been to get the 2 speed crayford focuser when I originally bought the scope. This is a solid performer, and I would not part with it.
This is a wide field scope yielding excellent views of star clusters, and galaxies. The Pleiades look spectacular with a 30mm Superwide.Sort by
