Manufacturer Description

Astrophotographers and visual observers alike will benefit from the addition of an affordable, high quality filter wheel to their telescope setup. By installing your most frequently used 1.25" filters into the five position rotating wheel and attaching it directly to the telescope's focuser - via the removable 1.25" nose piece - filter changes are fast and easy. Thumbscrews are provided for fast, tool-free installation and removal of filters.

Visual observers can attach the included 1.25" eyepiece adapter to the filter wheel and install their star diagonal to hold an eyepiece as usual. No more removing the eyepiece, unscrewing the filter, screwing on a different filter, and placing the eyepiece back into the star diagonal. A simple turn of the wheel to the desired filter is all it takes. You can install up to five filters or install just four and leave one position open for unfiltered viewing.

Astrophotographers can install their 1.25" LRGB filter set (not included), attach the imaging device to the provided T-thread camera adapter, and be able to quickly move the wheel to each filter in succession for the required exposures - with minimal interruption. There is no need to remove the imaging device from the focuser, virtually eliminating image shift. A knurled locking ring ensures the imaging device is securely attached to the T adapter in any orientation desired. The nominal 25mm back focus requirement should be within the capability of most modern focusers The filter wheel's versatility allows you to easily and quickly configure the filter positions to best suit your needs.

The lightweight aluminum housing protects installed filters from dirt, moisture, and impact better than other designs on the market. When removed from the telescope, two provided plastic dust caps continue to keep your filters free of dust and smudges while in storage.

      4.0 Works as I expected

      Pros:

      Cons:

      Comments:

You need to be carefull how far "in" you thread connectors on each side to make sure it does not contact the wheel itself, it lets in light and humidity so you cant do darks with it attachedm but I just remove the camera and do darks with cam only if I need new ones, and I purchased a heater for the focal reducer to keep it from dewing up (it has been REALLY humid here this year). It makes swapping filters a breeze.

4.0 Decent product at a relatively low price

      Pros:

      Lightweight,Strong Construction,Well built

      Cons:

No Manual,Difficult to Use,Adapters On Wrong Sides,Expensive For What It Is

      Comments:

Just received the product and was flabbergasted that a piece of equipment that costs nearly $100 and requires some assembly doesn't come with a manual. To their credit, Agena Astro discloses this on their website, but come on! How good an idea would it be to fix this, especially for a store-branded product?

The adapters on mine were on the wrong sides; if I hadn't swapped them the markings showing the filter number in use would have been on the back. Not a big deal, just mentioning it for the benefit of others who may not realize both can be unscrewed and moved.

Still, I paid less than $100 for it, versus several hundred dollars for more exotic motorized alternatives. And once I got it set up it appears to work fine. I'll find out for sure if I ever get a clear viewing night!

      4.0 Very good for price!

      Pros:

Good Value To Price,Easy to Use,Lightweight

      Cons:

      Easy To Crossthread

      Comments:

Good deal. Great for PEP photometry. Be careful. Soft aluminum. It's fairly easy to cross-thread, especially outer adapters. Don't force anything, just take your time.

4.0 Well Built and Solid, Very Practical!

      Pros:

      Strong Construction,Easy to Use

      Cons:

      No Compression Rings

      Comments:

For Astrophotography and visual viewing when you need to use multiple filters without removing and handling your Expensive Eyepiece or CCD camera at night, then there is no escape but to have a decent Filter Wheel.
      - Astrophotography: A typical setup would include at least 4 filters (LRGB) or Narrow Band Filters and your typical planetary colour filters.
      - Visual: Your typical Light Pollution, Narrowband Filters or planetary Colour filters.
The Agena wheel takes 5 filters, which can be screwed in without disassembling the filter wheel through a circular opening fairly easily before screwing-in the eyepiece and focuser adapters. It has enough space to take my Baader and Astronomik filters which have extra edges (crown) without any friction and handle my typical 1.25" eyepieces gracefully. It includes an adapters for 1.25" and T-Thread adapters for practically any Eyepieces or Camera. It's friendlier than the previous similar Portugal Manufactured Models.
My only reservation is the lack of Compression Rings on the eyepiece adapter; I will try and find an alternative adapter if possible with compression rings such as the Blue Fire Ball. They are a must for the protection of eyepieces from nasty scratches.
I will order another one or two more.
