    Been a member of a couple of other forums for some time now. This is a very nice site! I figure I had better say "Hello!" and quit lurking :).
    Astronomy has been a passion of mine since the bug bit me when I was 11 y/o. We moved to Utah a couple of years ago to be near the grandboys and it seems to be a great place for dark skies...I just need to get out there and find a favorite spot! I've been to Antelope Island where the Ogden Astronomical Society holds it's monthly star party. Well organized and attended! I haven't joined their club yet, but I plan to soon.

    I am not part of any club and reporting any adhesion all the time. :D

    Finding a favorite spot is always a challenge (but always fun too), during my last count, I had 11 different spots to various place.

    And they are selected with different factors. My favorite one is far away, but I have a few closer.. Having many spots is like being rich.

    For instance all the spots are not good for planets, some are surrounded by trees and good only for zenith observation, others are far away for DSO but not really necessary for planetary/moon observation. I have places where it's sure I won't see any people and places when I know people can see me with binoculars.

    I pick the right one depending of my mood and time.

    When I do get around to joining the club, I'll pick a few brains to see where the best dark sites are :) The west side of Antelope Island(in the Great Salt Lake) is fairly dark and is very close, just a 15 min drive for me. Bug spray is a must!

    ahhee yes the bugs ); they are out now.. Ill need the spray this week end for sure.
